Midnight blackberry tiramisu cups with purple and ivory layers

Midnight blackberry tiramisu cups layer espresso-soaked ladyfingers, vivid purple blackberry sauce, and airy mascarpone cream in clear glasses. The familiar tiramisu structure feels dramatic and seasonal without artificial black frosting.

The recipe is eggless and fully no-bake. Individual cups show every ivory, purple, and espresso-brown layer, making them especially effective for a Halloween dinner or dessert board.

Why blackberry tiramisu works

Blackberry brings acidity and a deep natural color that balances sweet mascarpone. Espresso keeps the dessert anchored to classic tiramisu, while a small amount of cocoa provides a restrained midnight finish.

Ingredient notes

Use firm crisp ladyfingers so the layers remain defined. Strain the cooked blackberry sauce to remove seeds. Cold heavy cream and cool mascarpone whip into the most stable filling.

Blackberry sauce, cooled espresso, and ladyfingers for tiramisu

Build distinct purple-and-cream layers

Dip each ladyfinger piece very briefly in cooled espresso. Layer it with small spoonfuls of berry sauce and piped mascarpone cream, keeping the inside walls of the glasses clean.

Success tips

  • Reduce the berry sauce until thick enough to coat a spoon.
  • Cool both espresso and sauce completely before assembly.
  • Dip ladyfingers quickly rather than soaking them.
  • Chill the cups for at least four hours.

Substitutions and variations

Black raspberries or blueberries can replace blackberries. Decaffeinated espresso works well. For an alcohol-free dessert, use the recipe as written; for adults, add a small amount of coffee liqueur.

Storage and make-ahead

Cover and refrigerate the assembled cups for up to two days. Add fresh berries and cocoa shortly before serving. Do not freeze, because the mascarpone layer can become grainy.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the layers muddy?

The sauce or espresso may have been warm, or the ladyfingers were oversoaked. Cool every component and use a very quick dip.

Can I make one large tiramisu?

Yes. Assemble the same components in an 8-inch (20 cm) dish and increase chilling time to six hours.

Description

Eggless individual tiramisu cups layered with blackberry sauce, espresso ladyfingers, and mascarpone cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (288 g) fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 1/3 cup (67 g) granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) lemon juice
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract, divided
  • 1 cup (240 ml) strong brewed espresso, cooled
  • 16 crisp ladyfingers (about 128 g)
  • 8 oz (227 g) mascarpone, cool
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp (5 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 8 fresh blackberries (about 48 g), for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook 2 cups (288 g) blackberries with 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar and lemon juice for 8–10 minutes, mashing the fruit.
  2. Strain the sauce, stir in 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) vanilla, and cool completely. It should be thick enough to coat a spoon.
  3. Beat the mascarpone briefly until smooth. Add the heavy cream, powdered sugar, remaining granulated sugar, and remaining vanilla. Whip to medium-stiff peaks.
  4. Break each ladyfinger into pieces that fit the glasses. Dip each piece quickly in cooled espresso.
  5. In eight clear glasses, layer dipped ladyfingers, blackberry sauce, and mascarpone cream. Repeat once, keeping the layers distinct.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  7. Dust lightly with cocoa and top each cup with one fresh blackberry immediately before serving.

Notes

Use a piping bag for the mascarpone cream to keep the sides of the glasses clean and the layers sharp.
